Rama seeks IATF's approval for Misa de Gallo to expedite

Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama asked the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to allow the upcoming Misa de Gallo push through in Cebu City amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rama said that the religious activity could elevate the spirits of people who have locked many months in their homes.

“Wa ta kagawas pag Semana Santa, wa ta kabisita sa mga patay pag Kalag-kalag, dili dapat pugngan ang mga tawo nga makasinati sa Pasko,” said the vice mayor.

(We weren't allowed to go out and observe Holy Week, we weren't able to visit our loved ones during All Souls' Day, we should not keep people from celebrating Christmas said Rama)

"With the age restriction eased, it is only fitting that those who feel the need for religious support get it through the Misa de Gallo" he added.

Furthermore, Rama will be writing a letter to Environmental Secretary Roy Cimatu, to be more considerate when it comes to this religious tradition.

The Cebu Police Office (CCPO) have already said in a statement beforehand that it won’t allow the Misa de Gallo as it could be prone to violations with the city’s curfew protocols and could lead to further spread of the COVID-19.

Rama added that there will be less spread of the COVID-19 even during the Misa de Gallo if the public would allow the basic health protocols.

Rama also determined to keep the fun during Christmas season as activities like Pasko sa V. Rama is set to launch this December 1, 2020 while the Pasko sa Kabataan is still being studied as 14-year-olds are restricted from going out.

“We will find a way, we may deliver the gifts house-to-house. The Pasko sa Kabataan must continue as this essence of Christmas is for the children,” said the vice mayor.
