New payment system soon to be used for Cebu Province bus trips

The Cebu Provincial Government in partnership with a private transportation company will soon be launching a new form of payment when travelling to different destinations in Cebu Province— a cashless and automated payment system.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia introduced on a press conference last Wednesday, November 4, 2020, the Suroy-suroy card, a card that will used for both the North and South Bus Terminal.

"Suroy-suroy card is a beep card which can be used to 'tap-up' a payment or pay through tapping a machine provided in the terminals" said Garcia.

The said card can be availed for P100 with a P30 refundable deposit and a P70 usable load and will have two features; a printed one and a mobile application form.

Topline Express after submitting an unsolicited proposal was granted the right to design, operate and construct ticketing booths. However, the system is still subjected for changes and smoothening.

Following this, the contract between the Provincial Government and Topline will last for 10 years, with a non-refundable success fee of P100,000 to be given on its first year of service to the Provincial Government.

“Wala tay gasto ani, mo-earn pa ta. (We are not spending anything for this, yet we are going to earn.) As we raise it up to the next level, with the use of beep cards, we also will be earning additional revenues,” said Garcia.

Garcia said that hopefully by March or April 2021, the system will be up and running.
