Labella bans Christmas caroling to inhibit the spread of COVID-19

This year's Christmas season will be quieter than the usual after Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella prohibits street caroling as mitigation for the unprecedented spread of COVID-19.

Labella highlighted that caroling is not advisable for the coming Christmas season because it violates the social distancing protocol since carollers go in groups.

“Dili lang una ta mo allow nga magcaroling sa atong syudad kay aduna gihapon ang COVID-19. Manghinaot ko nga masabtan sa katawhan nga ato una iban ang caroling sa mga kabalayan, sa mga sakyanan, ug sa mga kadalanan,” said the mayor.

(We will not allow carolling in the city while we are still facing COVID-19 pandemic. I hope everyone would understand why there is a need to ban Christmas carolling in residential areas and in the streets)

The prohibition of caroling will also be extended in private communities such as subdivisions, condominiums, and other establishments. Those who will be caught violating the mandate will face consequences.

Combared to the caroling ban in Metro Manila targets only minors while in Cebu City it applies to all ages, with no exception to organized groups.

To solidify its implementation, Labella will be releasing an executive order for the guidelines of the no-caroling ordinance.
