Initially planned Fiesta Señor motorcades could be cancelled

The initially planned motorcades for Sinulog 2021 covering both Cebu Province and Cebu City could be cancelled, announced by organizers today, November 2, 2020.

Cebu City Councilor Philip Zafra, said in a phone interview with CDN Digital that concerns related to the enforcement of health protocols and the compliance of such are the reasons why they opted to reconsider the plan.

According to Zafra, everyone has been lenient lately when going outdoors which they apprehend to happen if they will push through with the idea in celebration for the most festive event in Cebu.

They suppose that people will crowd the sidewalks and streets to either join or witness the event, gaining uncertainty that the mandated health protocols will still be followed.

“This is why we’re contemplating in suggesting to the priests that there might be a possibility to cancel the motorcade, and we’ll just concentrate on holding the Novena Masses only,” Councilor Zafra added.

He also cited that nothing is still final and that the plans they had presented to Mayor Edgardo Labella last Thursday, October 29, 2020, are just initial plans.

Zafra and the organizers are hoping to finalize their plans for the week-long religious celebration in honor of Señor Santo Niño this month.
