Ex-VP Jejomar Binay cites ‘consequences’ of ABS-CBN's closure during calamities

Ex-Vice President Jejomar Binay lamented the ”consequences” of ABS-CBN's closure in the disaster coverage, particularly in the recent destruction of Super Typhoon Rolly.

According to Binay, the Kapamilya Network has been lauded for covering previous major disasters that occured in the country, which is said to have helped citizens amidst all the calamities.

In a statement Binay issued, he said that the onslaught of Typhoon Rolly reminds the public of the essential role media plays in times of calamities and that the closure of the media giant and its regional networks 'has left a noticeable void that has yet to be filled by the other networks'.

On the other hand, the Malacañang claimed that despite ABS-CBN's absence in Free TV, there was no communication vacuum during the destruction of Super Typhoon in the country.

The Kapamilya network has 53 regional televison and radio stations that broadcast in 6 languages and it provides filipino local news and entertainment which was later forced to close by 70 lawmakers.
