Cebu Normal University (CNU) launched the first phase of its student portal last November 18, 2020, which enables undergraduate and graduate students to view their grades online; further developments are to be expected in the near future.
CNU’s way to conform to the new mode of learning as COVID-19 cases escalate within the city is the introduction of a fresh and modern pursuit of permitting student’s to view their grades online through a portal made by the university.
The portal can cater both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled for the school year 2020-2021. They may sign-in using their student number and the same password they used in viewing their grades in the kiosk pre-pandemic.
The CNU Student Portal can be found at the official CNU website at cnu.edu.ph.
Fast-Track Process
Niel Joseph Iyog, the incumbent CNU main campus SSC President, said during an interview with Among Us Publication that he envisions the university with this system to become nimble and swift– where we can have inclusive results at the end.
“I envision CNU to become more fast-track, fast paced and instant when it comes to different processes so that all of us can have an inclusive results at the end.” he said.
Iyog added that the launching of the student portal is one of the action that CNU has taken to adapt to the new normal in terms of education where we are given the access to fast-track processes which according to him is ‘very progressive’.
“The launching of the CNU portal is really one of the steps that the school has taken to adapt to the new mode of education because before when we were still in face-to-face classes we have to line up sa kiosk… and then if ever we would want a fast track process, mobayad pa ta og 50 pesos to get the grade slip for the evaluation during enrolment so this one is very progressive in a sense nga bag-o na and it’s very easy for us to access.” he said.

Iyog also represented the student body in the meetings of the administration way before the start of the school year where they had planned out ways on how to approach the new normal.
“The student council took part by my representation in the meetings in the administration way before the school year started. We had a meeting on how the school year would go through, how would we start our classes and how students would access the grades. This was actually proposed and approved by the body, by the administration together with my representation and knowing this one, this is just the start of that interface.” he said.
Meanwhile, according to Omar Roma, the CNU Data Protection Officer, that the CNU Student Portal was already conceptualized before the pandemic.
Roma added that the student portal was fully functional last September 2019 but they still waited for the approval of the University Administrative Council to have it available online.
Further Developments
Improvements and adjustments are to be expected as the student portal is eyed to develop it’s usage from online of viewing of grades only into becoming a new means of enrolment, checking of class schedules, and other transactions, according to Iyog in the same interview.
“For sure, since the portal is still in its beginning phase or still in its first phase of development meaning mao pa ni siya ang sugod di pa gyud ni siya ingon nga mao gyud ni siya ang final, actually the portal has a lot of uses in the near future.” said Iyog.

Iyog claims that the administration is still in its first phase of development which is a big help already compared in the past where students still have to assemble in line and crowd the TAC ground floor to gain access to the functioning kiosk.
Now, students can easily access everything through the web in just a click.
For Iyog, this is a chance for the students to escape the draggy process brought about the traditional means of checking grades and that this bears convenience to him as well as the rest of the student body.
