Cebu to remain under MGCQ until November 31

The entire Cebu Island will remain under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) until November 31, 2020 according to a memorandum issued by the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) today, October 30, 2020.

“The President (Rodrigo Duterte), taking into consideration the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), has approved the (updated) quarantine classifications of provinces, highly urbanized cities, and independent component cities from November 1 – November 30,” portions of the memorandum reads.

Cebu and all other areas in Central Visayas like the cities of Bacolod and Ilo-ilo in Western Visayas and Tacloban in Eastern Visayas will remain under MGCQ for the same period.

However, Cebu City is among the areas that requires special attention from the local government unit, Regional IATF, and the National Task Force’ as noted by the Malacañang.

Following this, Mayor Edgardo Labella welcomed the city’s classification and said that restrictions should remain in place.

Labella asked the Cebuanos to continue to follow health protocols. “If we remove our quarantine classification, it will be free for all. We need to impose discipline,” said Labella.
