Cebu City government needs P40 million for Sinulog 2021, Rama says

The Cebu City government is in need of P40 million to fund the activities set for Sinulog 2021 as well as for the 500th year celebration of Christianity in the country.

According to Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama, who has been tasked to lead the preparations for the festivity, he will soon be presenting the budget proposal to Mayor Edgardo Labella and the members of the City Council.

Furthermore, he also said that the proposed budget is P5 million higher than last year's P35 million budget. The increase was said to be necessary to sustain the Quincentennial activities that will be held this year.

Changes were opted to happen to fight against the possible transmission of COVID-19 in the city and to eradicate mass gatherings, according the Organizers of the celebration.

Meanwhile, the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) has announced that all the major events will be held online.

Rama, a member of SFI, said that the budget requirement will still be of great need even if all the activities will be held online.

“The P40 million will already fund the pre-Sinulog activities, the Sinulog, and of course, we have the Quincentennial celebrations. That is an important part of our 2021 activities,” he added.

On the other hand, for Mayor Edgardo Labella, he will still grant the requested P40 million budget of the Vice Mayor, which also proposed a P80 million total allocation for the 2021 city-sponsored activities including Sinulog.
