Boozing still prohibited; safety reason of implementation

Lapu-Lapu Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan reminded the public that boozing or drinking liquor in public is still not allowed in Lapu-Lapu City, especially on the upcoming fiesta celebration of Our Lady of Rule this November 20-21, 2020.

The ban under Executive Order no.2020-048-O was released last November 11, 2020 stated that drinking any type of liquor in public places in Lapu-Lapu City is strictly prohibited.

Mass gatherings are also prohibited in the city to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Police Colonel Arnel Banzon, the Director of Lapu-Lapu City Office (LCPO), gave a reminder to the public that liquor ban extends to bars and other establishments which offer alcoholic beverages.

“Bawal ang inom karon. Wala pa’y open nga bars, wala pa’y inom gyud nga gi-allow nato ana,” Banzon said. (Drinking liquor is still prohibited. There are no bars opened yet, because we really don’t allow drinking liquor.)

Authorities were also tasked police these places during the fiesta to make sure that no violators will be caught committing any act of disobedience of the government's mandate.

On the other hand, Mayor Chan issued another Executive Order that includes the guidelines that needs to be followed during the observance of the Annual Fiesta of the City of Lapu-Lapu.

People outside Lapu-lapu City are also discouraged to enter the city during fiesta celebration to avoid further transmissions of the virus since they have 64 active cases as of November 10, 2020.
